Redding Police Officers take back South City Park , How about give back the restrooms?

Image
Redding Mayor Rick Bosetti, Redding Police, and Record Searchlight Photographer at the take back the park event. Many caring and compassionate individuals feel that local media has been creating as of late a dynamic that have folks hating the people who are being oppressed in our community and loving the people who are doing the oppressing. The Redding Police Officers Association who wants the community to take back South City Park from the homeless and transients who use it daily and give it back to families, hosted  a daylong event Saturday that was marred by controversy, injury, and a lack of public attendance.     One must ask themselves, where do folks relieve themselves at this event, as the only public restroom was locked up tight and unusable for both event goers and homeless alike, a taste of what it is like in much of the downtown Redding area. Much has been spoken of in the Redding area of the sex trade, ...

Can't you smell that smell ?

Image
It should be of no surprise to the dozens of Redding California County and City workers that make their way to the downtown Yuba Street post office every work day that Redding has ranked so low as a city in regard to its people and their well being. I suppose one can easily turn their head and avoid the oozing stains of blatant disregard that mar the sidewalks, or avoid the looks of elderly homeless who have been beaten and rolled by juvenile homeless heroine addicts desperate for another fix. Unable to visually turn your head , a question not so easy to avoid as you approach the post office must assault your senses to be sure. Oooooh  that smell... With Record Searchlight bloggers writing about the halcyon days of the long gone McColl's Dairy or whimsical songs of what's to love of Redding, one must as a question. Can't you smell that smell? From winter days of years past our chronic downtown homeless suffer from frost bite...

Redding California Homeless - Keep um moving...

Image
It appears this Christmas season the holiday sentiments  "peace on earth goodwill towards men" we wish to one another does not include our everyday neighbors the poor and homeless we see languishing up and down our streets as if trapped in some kind of modern day World War 2 Bataan "forced" death march. Of course the American Indians and how we "forced" them down far more than one trail of tears as well also comes to mind, a form of torture to be sure. Keep um moving... What a shame on the streets of Redding their poor and homeless are treated just shy of how we treat captured enemy combatants on the streets of Fallujah Iraq. Indeed the Iraqi combatants would receive food and water and shelter. As for Redding and that matter California's growing homeless Families, Veterans, Men, Women and Children...? Keep um moving... We have another phrase Americans hold dear, "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Unfortunately ...

Redding California - Neglected past - neglected people

Image
This is the Wells Fargo Depot that still stands on Yuba St. in downtown Redding near the railroad tracks across the street from the Redding California Veterans "Memorial Building" and the downtown Post Office. This photo was taken in approximately 1913. The Wells Fargo Depot today stands in jeopardy of being demolished by Union Pacific which owns the property and wants to demolish it.  The City of Redding seems to have no interest  in saving it and seem interested in maintaining a "history" as well. A history of destruction concerning dozens of historic buildings during the downtown mall construction, as well as the destruction of hundreds of homeless camps, and their irreplaceable personal possessions. In a world where it is against the law for certain folks to sit or lay down or sleep or keep warm by a campfire it is quite natural for the City of Redding to strongly desire to tear down this monument to a compassionless Tea Party majority Redding...
