Vigilante groups invade Redding California homeless

"Guardian Standoff " - a News Cafe.com

Definition
of vigilante:  "A member of a volunteer committee organized to suppress and punish crime summarily (as when the processes of law are viewed as inadequate); broadly : a self-appointed doer of justice."

Sad really as these groups and local media have been creating for years a dynamic that have folks hating the people who are being oppressed in our community and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.

Just who are the groups that have taken on the definition of vigilantism as a mission statement here in Redding? Has ex police chief Robert Paoletti opened the door for a multitude of violations of civil and constitutional rights of the most poor and vulnerable of our community ?

Redding Guardian Angles

If  the City of Redding, its police, and its chief cannot handle and lack the training to effectively and safely deal with those with mental issues and have subjected Redding to legal trouble as this  Sacramento Bee News article states:
"Lawsuit: Redding police beat, suffocated mentally ill Chico man" what measures and background checks as well as training are given to these groups ?

Will untrained, unskilled members of the Redding Guardian Angels subject the city to liabilities of civil and constitutional right violation lawsuits in the future?

Take Back Redding / Shasta Support Services

Is it fair to have Shasta Support Services
go out into the deep brush of our community to do the local "point in time" census on local homeless and their locations only to turn them in to law enforcement at a later date ? The more homeless that are reported the more funds to combat homelessness are available...

Would a recall of 2 city council members by these groups really cost tax payers of the city of Redding 200, 000 dollars as reported in local media? Even though it is so close to the end of their terms ?

These groups I believe LOVE to hide behind good deeds such as "Invasive Species Eradication" of non native plant life to destroy known homeless camp locations or "Community Clean Up" days to also destroy known homeless camp locations and confiscate necessary living and life sustaining food and sleeping gear as well as the last of their worldly possessions.

The Redding Area Transient Patrol group or R.A.T. Patrol

From the local news article we have shocking
"Controversial Facebook page targets homeless" group that claims to shine light on the homeless situation in Redding. However, homeless advocates are concerned the group is promoting violence against the homeless. Posts on the group refer to "eradicating" the homeless population, using what advocates call "violent and inhumane" acts.

"Some members have suggested filling up squirt guns with urine and spraying them while they sleep, or putting bear traps in dumpsters," Lee said. "I haven't personally done that, but if people are doing that, good for them."

    1. Where do you get this information? Let me clearly tell you that it is inaccurate, untrue and ridiculous. I started Take Back Redding and I hate to destroy your image of us but I use to be a Social Worker that worked with homeless foster youth that had aged out. I also teach on mental health and addiction. I believe (based on evidence) that there are different categories of homeless. There are mentally ill that are in desperate need of mental health treatment, which we lack. There are also those needing a helping hand and direction to get on their feet. There are addicts wanting help and addicts that don't . There are couch servers and there are CRIMINAL TRANSIENTS that put our families and communities in danger. We as a community need to come together to break the cycle lf addiction, poverty and violence. We also have to break the cycle of criminal activity which means those committing crimes need consequences (legal, we do not support community violence.)

Just because you say something doesn't make it true. We want solutions and actions...not talk. We want those that need help to get it and we want opportunity for a better community for everyone. The goal is for a safer community that gives hope for the future. Standing by and making excuses for criminals doesn't help anyone, not even the criminal. Talking does nothing...It's time for solutions. If you want to make statements about Take Back Redding, consider fact checking and don't assume the 7000 members all represent the admin -Anje

  7. meanwhile we continue to breed away our quality of life adding 1,000,000 more polluting and consuming humans every 4.5 days. folks, the earth is limited and finite, and the more people we have vying for our depleting resources, the lower quality of life for everyone. this is not political... it is basic math and science.

research "the limits to growth" findings from 1974. we are right on target for the projections from then.

infinite growth -> meet finite planet.

  8. This is disgusting behavior for human beings to be a part of. You should all be ashamed deeply ashamed of yourselves and I don't even know how you can sleep at night; it must take a lot of drugs. my wish for you is that the same lack of compassion you show the homeless now is the same lack of compassion that will be shown to you later.

  9. Every member of the R.A.T. possies life is now in danger. As well as the city council for allowing this unconstitutional behavior in our USA.
Every rat member is now a suspect in an ongoing criminal case.

    2. They should be. My fiance and I left Redding last year, barely making it away from ratpac mob threatening us at night while recycling just too be able to feed ourselves the next day and survive because our belongings were constantly stolen. My now wife is permanently handicaped and in a wheelchair, but it was of no reference to them when there trying to run us down with there vehicles while crossing through a crosswalk. I will happily return to prosecute every last one of your worthless Ratpac clan. Be seeing you in court soon Redding.

  10. This so called R.A.T patroll is nothing but criminals, they are not helping the homeless, they have beaten them and burned what little they have left. Assault is a crime last I herd and if it was a homeless person atacking another one of reddings citizens they would be charged and do time in jail. And I don't think it is right for them to get away with committing crimes, while others go to jail for that same crime

  11. I'm not afraid to state my name at all. My name is Rebecca. I am on the streets by circumstance not by choice. I am a direct victim of this rat patrol, commonly referred to as the rat pack. They showed up at the place that I was staying and burnt and cur up absolutely everything that me and my husband own. We were held back by thei so called leader who stood with a weapon in his hand so we could do nothing about it. We have witnessed these people burn tents while people fight to get out of them before they becom engulfed in flames. They purposely harm and kill people every day and we have it hard enough without adding insult to injury. What kind of human being takes pleasure in hurting people while they are already down? They need to be exterminated like the rodents they are.

    1. All the anonymous names-- they seem to realize that they are criminal, and doing harm. That guy that says he used to be a social worker-- the first thing as student of social work learns is that the purpose of social work is to fight injustice. Burning a homeless camp is a social perversion, and not justice.

  14. I live in Santa Cruz and have seen first hand what has transpired since "Take Back Santa Cruz" was formed and they too said it was to combat the "criminal transient population" It was and always has been a thinly veild assault on unhoused people here. Im not saying there aren't homeless that commit crimes, but the majority of the people on the streets here have mental health issues or had some type of catastrophic life event that caused them to become homeless. Vigilante groups is not how to address the social issue that is homelessness.

  15. It is time to bring the federal government in to bring the local authorities to account for their deeds.

  16. ad hominem attacks against the homeless (blame-shifting) resulting in vigilantism; of course, there are horrible aspects of homelessness where some or many should not be doing horrible stuff--thereby giving rationale to the vigilantes, yet what goes ignored is the system. There are no vigilantes going after laissez-faire realtors that provide shelter only for those with the most money, are there?

  17. One thing tbat i have learned about redding is that the lack of humanity is astounding. Criminalizing homeless people simply for what they don have? That is the very definition cruelty to humankind. Whats the difference berween homeless people and peoplevwith homes? Walls. Thats it. Simple and true. Yes there are homeless crimonals. But i know lots of peopke doing lots of time that have never been homeless a day in their lives. The homeless are just an easier target because they have nowhere to go after commotting their crimes. Funny thing is i have also seen people wrongfully accused because they were homeless. Wake up people. Homeless peopke, like it or not, are a part of this community just as much as the people on the city council or just your freindly little old lady next door. The redding police department should all be brought up on charges as well. Officer bob brennen and officer gutterdine go to places where homeless people are trying to survive and confiscate everything they own. Leaving thwm cold starving and without the few necessaties they have. Last i heard the laws written about this call it home invasion. Or resedential burglary. Homeless would go to jail if we went titheir homes and took everything thwy own. The only difference here is they do it hiding behind a badge. I have never seen a community waste more resources targetting homeless in my life
I was born in redding. I was raised in redding. I raised my family here. Went to college here. And because of the pwers that be, i cant wait to leave here. You should alk be ashamed of what youve done to the less fortunate. May god have mercy on you. Because no one else should. You should ask yourselves what would Jesus do? Because this isnt it.
